Why planners use Cognomine

These are five situations mine planners and consultants have described to us. In each one, another full scenario would change the answer, and today that scenario costs too much time to run.

A

Get to know a new deposit

The situation

You've been handed a deposit you don't know yet. Before you commit to a study direction, you want to see its shape: which constraints bind, how the pit responds to a price change, where the value sits and what sensible phasing looks like. When every pass is its own piece of work, you commit early and find out later whether the direction was right.

With Cognomine

Load the block model once and run it as often as you need. If you don't have a phase design yet, Cognomine proposes indicative phases and shows which areas of the deposit hold the most value. A credit includes unlimited runs on one model for three months, so exploring costs nothing beyond the credit.

What it uses

  • Indicative phasing
  • Unlimited runs
  • Constraint diagnostics
B

Back a capital decision

The situation

Scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies end in a decision to commit capital, and that decision can run to hundreds of millions. Most studies take two or three options forward, because each one takes so long to evaluate properly.

With Cognomine

Evaluate more engineering options in full, with the operating constraints held inside the solve, and re-run the whole set when a price assumption or constraint changes. Every run comes with constraint diagnostics showing which limits are holding and where, so the plan you take to the board can be defended on the limits it respected.

What it uses

  • Pit, schedule and haulage in one pass
  • Constraint diagnostics
  • Price decks that vary over the mine life
C

Value an asset

The situation

In a transaction, the mine plan underpins the price. A buyer often has one case to work from, the seller's, and limited time to test it.

With Cognomine

A buyer can test several operating assumptions against the orebody instead of taking a single case on trust. A seller can show where the value sits and how it holds up when the assumptions change. The cost of a study also decides how often one gets done, so a cheaper study makes it practical to revisit undeveloped assets more often.

What it uses

  • Multiple scenarios per model
  • Price decks that vary over the mine life
  • Exports to Spry and spreadsheets
D

Grow consulting capacity

The situation

For a consultancy, the binding constraint is people. Skilled mining engineers are scarce, and work gets deferred or turned down when it can't be staffed.

With Cognomine

Faster passes let the same team take on more studies, and deliver a set of scenarios and trade-offs where a client would otherwise get a single answer. Your engineers spend their time on the decisions that matter for the site, not on the mechanics of getting a feasible schedule. Client models are isolated and kept in Australia, with read-only handover built in.

What it uses

  • Plans in minutes
  • 5-credit and enterprise bundles
  • Read-only client handover
E

Re-plan for reporting

The situation

Listed miners restate reserves and resources every year, with quarterly production reporting alongside. Each restatement means re-running the plan against updated depletion, drilling results, prices and costs.

With Cognomine

The model stays largely the same from one cycle to the next while the inputs move, so the plan can be re-run on the same setup each time. Twelve-month access covers a full reporting year.

Cognomine supports the planning work behind a reporting cycle. Any public disclosure under JORC, NI 43-101 or an equivalent code remains the responsibility of the competent person who makes it.

What it uses

  • Twelve-month access
  • Same setup, updated inputs
  • Constraint diagnostics
